The Abyss

A face reduced to what stares and what speaks: one eye a red hexagon, the other a blue spiral, and a pair of orange lips laid across the black like a warning light. The field is scuffed white at the edges, as if the dark had been painted over something that is still trying to get out.
If you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes into you.
The line is Nietzsche’s, split so the second half can turn and look back. The lips do the gazing. The title does not add a rose this time — just the hole, and the fact that it returns the look.
